CASTLE TOURS

Thanks to the support of various foundations that actively preserve the medieval fortresses in the area, it is possible to book guided tours of the Castello di Sorbello and Civitella Ranieri (20 minutes from Lisciano, near Umbertide).
Self-guided visits are also possible around Pierle Castle—just 2 km from Lisciano—built by local farmers using stones fallen from the main tower after its final assault (~1100) by Lisciano Castle soldiers, which fatally weakened its structure.
All these castles, erected around 1000 AD, competed for control of the Upper Tiber Valley—a vital commercial crossroads—after Benedictine monks (Ora et Labora) reclaimed the marshy land centuries earlier through hard labor.
Reschio Castle remains a private residence, visible only from outside the estate.
